Answer
Hello Bronbeck

Callouses form where a shoe is rubbing against the skin when you walk.

The first thing I would do is buy a pair of Dr. Sholls foot inserts with arch supports. Look for the ones for people who are on their feet all day. I wear the heavy-duty ones that are brown rubber on the bottom. They are different shoe sizes and can be cut to fit even better, if necessary.

Next, let's start working on removing some of the layers of callouses. The best way to do this is to go to any hardware store that sells Dremel wood-shaping tools. They plug into the wall and have small round cylinders of various grades of sandpaper you put on the other end.

The sandpaper tube spins around at various speeds. You control the speed. Gently and carefully move the spinning sandpaper tube over the callouses. This will grind off the top layer of dead skin leaving the softer callous skin underneath. Do once a week. As the new skin underneath grows outward, you will slowly grind off completely! the hard callouses.

Next, shoes. The best shoes for people with sore feet is manufactured by Redwing. They sell mens and women's shoes. If she wants sandals, Dr. Sholles makes excellent sandals. Shoe stores sell them, and I see them on the internet.

This will take a couple of months, but relief will come almost immediately with the foot inserts. The grinding will take a little longer. I have had people write to me with terrible feet problems, including cracks in their feet, who went almost completely back to normal in a few months.

Write again if you have any more questions. Have a great week. Hope your wife feels better. Feet pain is the worse there is. Worse than back pain.
