Question
Hi there,
5 weeks ago my dog and i collided and the ortho put me in a boot since my x-rays came back negative although it was questionable of an avulsion fx. Since then the swelling and bruising have subsided but the area is very tender to touch, but with the boot i'm able to walk. I just had an mri last week and results were a non-displaced fx of the cuboid bone. Dr. advised me no weight bearing for 4 weeks and to use crutches now. Am i doing harm if i just use the boot since it feels ok to walk in it and could i have done any other damage since i've been walking on it already? Thanks very much, look foward to your response!!  I have a f/u appt. tomorrow, any questions i should be asking??

This Chicago,South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist says.......

Dear Melissa,

Sorry for the delay-but I specify in my profile that it may take up to 2 days for a reply.
That said...Sounds like some irritation of the cuboid joint of the foot as well.Boot use is probably OK as long as-The boot should feel very comfortable and have some kind of arch support and make sure you have zero foot pain with the boot. Make sure the shoe on the other foot is the same heel height as the boot-so you don't strain any other muscles.
If the fracture is non-displaced you probably did not cause any additional damage.
If it continues to hurt and your ortho is not sure, see your Board Certified Podiatrist-they are the experts in these kinds of injuries.

Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
