Planter fasciitis

Question
Dr George Tsatsos,
After reading the Wikipedia article on the subject, I believe that I have planter fasciitis in my right foot. It seemed to happen suddenly, and is limiting, but not disabling. My one notable risk is my age (62), but I have spent much of my life standing or walking barefoot, lately 4-6 hours a day.
I also spend about 6 hours a day standing or walking in Birkenstock sandals, which I believe have more than adequate arch support. When I stand in them and focus my attention on my left (unaffected) foot, I notice pressure first on the inside of my arch, second on the outside of the arch, third on my big toe, and fourth on my heel. The difference is not great.
My question is: Can a little too much arch support cause or exacerbate planter fasciitis?
I appreciate whatever help you can offer.
Paul

Dear Paul,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
Any shoe or sandal that has a foot-bed that produces noticeable pressure on the bottom of your foot can cause issues-including a high arch support. Try a more forgiving gym shoe with a little bit of a heel for your plantar fasciitis. Prescription orthotics may also be of benefit
Good Luck!
