heel/foot/ankle pain

Question
I woke up the other day unable to put any weight on my right foot. It feels as if my heel and the area along the bottom of my foot is swollen. The bottom of the heel has a sharp pain while the flat of side of my ankle more of a terrible swollen ache (even though they don't appear that visibly swollen).  I can't hardly let it touch the floor. It dissipated for about an hour today but came back with a vengeance this evening. This is the second day of the pain. I did some mild stretches for my Achilles tendon in case it is Plantar Fasc.. Calf feels stiff, mild pain has appeared at anterior portion of knee this evening. Thank you. Robert D. Roach

This Chicago & Elmhurst Podiatrist says.......

Dear Robert,

You probably have irritated the muscles of the foot originating in the leg or plantar fascia.
Try PRICE
Protect-perhaps an ace wrap around the ankle and arch and limit the movements that aggravate it. Maybe some arch supports in your shoes with a bit of a heel lift.
Rest-Speaks for itself-perhaps the weekend when you are off-rest it.
Ice- As much as you can tolerate. Pros put the injured area into an ice bath for 15 minutes! Try ice packs instead for 3-4 days.
Compress-Ace wrap or ankle sleeve
Elevate-Will help if it throbs at the end of the day.
Go to our website store at AnkleNFoot.com for examples of wraps, sleeves or braces for your ankle and arch
Take max doses of anti-inflammatories (try Alleve) for about 5 days-as long as you don't have any stomach problems.
Continue to stretch your calf slowly and gently, twice a day.
If these suggestions don't help  then seek the aid of Podiatrists who are Board Certified in Orthopedics. Sometimes these injuries respond with orthotics(prescription custom made) and physical therapy or other modalities.

Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
