Question
QUESTION:  IF I MOVE MY ANKLE IN A CIRCLE IT POPS AND IT IS PAINFUL SOMETIMES EXTREMLEY PAINFUL. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN I WALK IT WILL POP, ITS NOT AS PAINFUL BUT IS VERY SENSITIVE. THE BACK OF MY FOOT AND THE OUTSIDE OF MY ANKLE HURT PRETTY MUCH 24/7. ALSO WHEN I AM WALKING SOMETIMES IT WILL GIVE OUT AND HURT BAD.  I HAVE TORN LIGAMENTS A FEW TIMES WHEN I WAS YOUNGER,  IS THIS PAIN SOMETHING I SHOULD WORRY ABOUT?

ANSWER: Dear Tara,

I strongly recommend that you visit a podiatrist as soon as possible to have your ankle X-Rayed and evaluated.

If you have ankle instability you have to be fitted with customized orthotic or brace to prevent future arthritis or in case you have arthritis, to reduce the progression of your problem.

An MRI of your ankle may be indicated to properly evaluate the soft tissue surrounding your ankle.

QUESTION: I also believe that when I was younger I had to go to an Orthopedic specialist when I had torn ligaments and he said that I had deformities in both my ankles.  Could that also be the problem?

Answer
Dear Tara,

Without a full evaluation of your x-rays and MRI report, I cannot answer this question.  Yes, torn ligaments and ankle deformities could be the cause of your pain. But for a diagnosis and treatment plan, you need to see a podiatrist doctor (foot & ankle specialist)as soon as can.
