QUESTION: Dear sir/mam,
during a soccer game, someone wearing studs stepped on my main toe in the middle part (between the two joints). there was very little swelling but it hurts a lot when i lightly press it.also, there is no injury in the joint as such but it makes a sound of "tic" when exercising.
What should i do and when shall i continue playing?
Thanks for the help.
(x-ray in the pic is not mine)
regards,
aditya

ANSWER: Aditya,

From the sounds of your injury, you likely have a small fracture in that toe or a sprain in the area. I would recomend if the injury persist, go see a doctor to get an xray. In the mean time I would suggest the following:

Ice the toe, 20 min on 20 min off
A supportive shoe, preferably with a stiff sole as to prevent to much motion
Ibuprofen (if you are able, and have no allergies/stomach problems)

QUESTION: Thanks for the reply
now that around 4 days have passed, i am able to run easily. i feel no difficulty doing so. but still it pains when i press it. there is no swelling as such i feel some clot over there... i have heard that the cracking sound produced by the joints after injury is bad ... can u please tell me smth about it?

thanking you,
aditya

Answer
Aditya, "cracking" or "popping" in a joint can be a finding of arthritis that has developed in a previously injured joint.  This type of arthris is called "post traumatic arthritis."  If you have noticed that the symptoms have not resolved, then you should see a podiatrist so appropriate xrays can be performed to rule out fracture or post traumatic arthritis.
