Knot on foot

Question
About a year ago I sprained my ankle playing flag football. I was on crutches for a week, and then began gradually putting pressure on it. It continued to give me slight pain, but I was able to play sports this summer. Recently, I have noticed I have a knot on the inside of my foot about an inch away from my ankle bone. It is very painful to touch. It also hurts walking on my foot now. I haven't hurt my ankle again. I was wondering if this is related to my sprain and if there is anything I can do to help it.

Answer
It certainly can be related to your ankle injury.  It's possible you ended up with an avulsion fracture, where a tendon or ligament pulls off a small piece of bone.  My suggestion is to go visit your podiatrist to have another x-ray taken and see what can be identified.

All the best,
