Answer
Dear Anne,

This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Sounds like Achilles tendonitis.
If you have been wearing flip flops-top immediately and try a shoe with a little bit of a heel-about 1-1.5 inches, or try a heel lift in your shoe.
Try PRICE
Protect-Wear an ankle brace around the ankle and limit the movements that aggravate it.
Rest-Speaks for itself-perhaps the weekend when you are off-rest it.
Ice- Will help if it is still painful and a little with the swelling.
Compress-Ace wrap  or ankle sleeve
Elevate-Will help the ankle if it throbs or swells at the end of the day.
Go to our website store at AnkleNFoot.com for examples of wraps, sleeves or supports for your ankle, or a inshoe heel lift.
You may see a good Board Certified Podiatrist who should be able to make the diagnosis same day with an x-ray and a good exam. Usually podiatrists have x-rays on facility and read them same day, and can provide treatment the same day-perhaps an orthotic or physical therapy.

Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
