Possible torn ankle ligament?

Question
I sprained my ankle really badly about 5 months ago.  It hasn't fully healed still and is a little larger than my other.  I have a small bump under the skin on the ankle i hurt and it is not present on the other one.  I can feel something move underneath and recently i was sitting at my desk and i felt a snap in my ankle and i thought it felt like a ligament went back into place because it didn't feel tense anymore.  I'm worried that it may be a torn ligament because it feels really weird like something moving under the lump.. it is on the outside of my ankle under the tibia about half and inch away from the bottom of my heal.

Answer
Hi Ryan,

This could be a torn piece of tissue or even a small piece of bone that was fractured.  I would recommend an MRI for evaluation.
