bruises on ankles

Question
For over a year now I have become aware of Huge bruises that develop on my ankles for no known reason. They dont hurt except if pressed so normally I dont feel them as my shoes do not touch this area, sometimes some pain to the top of the foot when walking barefoot. The bruises are not from hitting anything. All bruises are on the Inside of each ankle, never to the outside sides. I have a high arch and my hips are not even and Im 41. Is it simply aging? These bruises are a good six inches across or more by 4 to 6 inches. They are never small and happen alot. Is this normal?

Answer
Hi Ron,

Brusing on the inside of the ankles is usually caused by the ankles hitting each other with activity or while sleeping.  Other causes of bruising may be from blood thinners or from problems with veins in the feet and legs.  See a podiatrist and have this checked.
