Question
My 4 year old granddaughter has had cracking ankles with some pain at times for a fair while. Our doctor said months ago that it was growing pains, now she wants her checked via blood test for Ross River Fever and the ankles xrayed. I would appreciate your thoughts, kind regards Mrs Jan Taylor

Answer
Hi Jan,

I would see a pediatric podiatrist or orthopedist.  Ross River fever is not all that common and usually has other symptoms.  It would more likely involve many joints, not just the ankles.  I'm not an expert on this disease but I would imagine that it would have to be something that is seen in your area to even consider this diagnosis.  Your grand-daughter may benefit from orthotic devices which would help stabilize the foot and ankle.
