pain on the top of the foot below big toe

Question
I am experiencing pain at the top of my left foot below my metatarsal.  Yesterday I might have overdone it with high heels which tends to bring on this condition.  Years ago, I also had it (same foot)and it seemed to be brought on by running in the rain when my shoes became soaking wet.  I have googled for this issue and chatted with friends with sesamoiditis and it doesn't seem to be the same.  Thanks. Gloria

Answer
Hi Gloria,

Sesamoiditis usually causes pain at the bottom of the foot.  Pain on the top at this joint is usually from some arthritis or jamming of the joint.  This usually causes decreased motion as well.  I would see a podiatrist for an x-ray and exam.
