Question
three years ago I had a triple arthrodesis due to flat foot deformity on left foot.  Now, I have painful, reoccuring thick callus on the bottom of the fifth metatarsal, my toes are bending and curling, and it feels like I have a metal pipe running the entire lateral part of my foot.  I also have swelling on the lateral part of my ankle 'bump'.  What could this be ?

Hi Paula,

Whenever you have fused joints the pressure will get shifted to other parts of the foot and there may be imbalances in the tendons.  Stress is also placed on the ankle.  I would see the dr that performed your surgery for an evaluation.  You may benefit from orthotic devices.
