Question
Hi Dr.Tsatsos,
I am hoping you can shed some light regarding a strong/sharp pain I have been experiencing in the middle part of the heel of my right foot for the past 5 days.  It feels like there is a very small bump or  what one would call a "blind pimple" beneath the heel.  It is barely visible except that I can feel the small, hard lump with my finger.  It does not move.  It doesn't really hurt when I am not using my foot.  However it hurts alot when I walk on my foot or apply any pressure on it. When I walk I get a shooting like pain when the lump is. I did not do anything that I am aware of to cause any stress to my heel.  I am of normal weight.  Thank you for listening, any insight you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Dear Leila,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
For your heel pain.
If it is the back of the heel-possibly an irritation of the Achilles's tendon where it inserts into. The pull of the tendon can cause the small bump you are talking about-called a pump bump because of it's location. Try not to walk barefoot until it quiets down. Wear a little bit of a heel-especially if the pain decreases. If the pain is on the bottom-then possibly plantar fasciitis. If it continues to hurt-see your podiatrist.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck!
