Question
Dr. Marc Katz,
I am a tennis addict and play all the time.  I over extended my left in-step and soon after I developed intense pain of the Extensor Digitorum Longus and Extensor Digitorum Brevis of my left foot.  Besides the RICE method what other treatment would you recommend?  At the moment I can hartly walk on my left foot because of the pain.
Thank you,
Jesse

Answer
Hi Jesse,

With your activities, I would recommend a custom orthotic device for better foot support, function and stability.  I would see a podiatrist.  In addition, I would look into some stretching exercises and strengthening that would help and your podiatrist can help with that also.  You must be good to your feet.

Sincerely,

Marc Katz, DPM
