Left ankle pain

Question
I woke up in the middle of a sleep and my left leg was numb or asleep.  I went to step down on it to walk to get to my 5yr old son who was crying.  My ankle did not hold my weight and snapped to the side.  It twisted to the side with my outside ankle bone heading towards the wall or floor.

I had putt my weight on the ball of my foot thinking it would just help me move towards my son without having to jump on one leg to get to him.  This did not hold my weight at all.  On the ball of my foot my ankle kept leaning to the left until I heard a crack.  I limped for about 2 days and it seemed to be better, but still soar if I moved like I did when I injured it.  This has been 2 weeks now and I still have pain in the same spot I heard the crack.  There was mild swelling and no black and blue marks.  I can rotated it in a circle, but I can't sit Indian style.

I'm just wondering what the heck happened and if it with heal properly by itself?

Answer
Hi Kristy,

With an injury like this you need to see a podiatrist for x-rays.  You may have a fracture.  You likely also have torn soft tissue that may need to be treated.  It has been 2 weeks and now is the time to seek medical attention.
