bump on big toe.

Question
I have had a bunch on the outside of my big toe now for about 8mo. At first it didn't hurt, but in the last few months it has become very painful. I thought it may be a corn or callus, so I have tried numerous things over the counter and at home things to try and get rid of it, but nothing seems to be working. It has a black like thing in the middle then a whitish ring going into a reddish colored ring. I can't wear shoes nor can I sleep with my toe rubbing on things because it is very painful. I have noticed that my toe is always cold and it has a tingly feeling some of the time. I do have a Dr. Apt but it's not for a while, I was just wondering if you could give me a heads up on what it may be. I have looked throughout the net but have come up with nothing that matches the symptoms..

Answer
Hi Sharna,

The area on your toe may be a type of callous that has bleeding beneath the skin from pressure.  It is also possible that you have a wart.  Your podiatrist will be able to determine the condition.  If there is any concern a biopsy may be needed but that would be rare.  There may be an underlying bone enlargement and an x-ray can be used for this diagnosis.

Good luck.
