Question
hey, my great toenail on the right foot got infected back in January 2009.Doctor removed only part of my nail but few months later it got infected again. I had it completely removed in August. Now that it almost grew back, it got infected again. I was wondering if my doctor could remove only part of my toenail, but permanently remove it?

Answer
This Chicago & Elmhurst Podiatrist says.....

A small part of the toenail can be permanently removed.
You should have a conversation with your Doctor as to why the infection keeps recurring.
That should allow you to choose the best toenail procedure(onychectomy) for your particular case.
Make sure the doctor is a Podiatrist who has been in practice a few years. That Podiatrist will know several nail surgery procedures and would be able to pick the best one for you. Sometimes a small piece of the overgrown skin also needs to be removed.

Hope this helps Kasandra!
Good Luck My Friend!
