Question
hi dr, firstly, i have never had any problems with feet/bones/joints/muscles or tendons. earlier this week, i was felt this agonising sharp pain ontop of my left foot, running from the big toe to almost my ankle. now, a couple days later, it is very swollen and red and has a terrible grinding feeling which i can actually feel if i attempt to move my big toe. i am struggling to walk and driving is almost unbearable. there is no pain anywhere in my foot, other than the top area that runs directly to me toe. please advise accordingly.
thx
yvette

Answer
Hi Yvette,

With swelling and foot pain, you will need to have an x-ray of the foot.  You may have a fracture. If there is joint grinding there could be damage to the joint.  Other possible causes include gout.
