Question
Recently , particularly when I wake up in the morning, I've have a burning pain in the fourth toe of my right foot. I thought it was related to fungus on that foot and have been treated it with ketokonazole. That didn't seem to make a difference. Then, two days ago, I started getting a similar burning pain in the fourth toe of my left foot where I have no fungus. Both toes seems to be inflamed. Any ideas? In looking at your explanations for other people's 4th toe problems, this doesn't seem to be the same thing. I have had no injuries and wear wide, comfortable shoes. Does gout ever present itself this way? Any suggestions? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Answer
Hi Janice,

There could still be a fungal infecion so I would try lamisil cream on the skin around the toes.  There could also be an ingrown nail causing redness on each toe.  It would be unlikely to have gout that would present like this.

If the problem does not resolve or gets worse over the next few days, I would see a podiatrist.
