Question
QUESTION: Almost 2 years ago I had a complete midfoot fusion due to charcot foot.My foots range of motion is limited and when I walk on soft or uneven ground I can't keep my balance as my right foot can't adjust to the terrain.  Is there any hope of ever being able to go to the beach again or go swimming in the ocean again. or am I stuck walking on flat hard surfaces forever?

ANSWER: I do understand your frustration! You should be able to return to activity but must accept that your foot function has been forever changed. Ask your podiatrist about adding a rocker sole to your shoes. That will help.

QUESTION: Thanks but have a rocker sole this issue is the foot does not have a range of motion to the left or right especially to the left and can't adjust to soft ground.  So I guess the beach and ocean are out forever.

Answer
Unfortunately that's a ramification of both Charcot and a fusion. I'm afraid the foot will never be what it once was. I suggest you work with your podiatrist or ask for a referral to a pedorthist to try and get a shoe working best for you.
Good luck,
