foot pain for six month

Question
I have had foot pain for six months after walking around an amuesment park in flip flops.  The pain is near the fifth metarsal head on the side and bottom.  Sometimes it is painful to touch (usually after walking for a long time) other time it is not.  I've seen my family doctor and had x-rays taken which show nothing wrong.  I've been on Naproxin and Motrin with no relief.  The pain is the worse in the morning after laying down all night.  Any ideas what this could be or what I should try next????

Answer
Hi Ursula,

I would see a podiatrist. A repeat x-ray may indicate a healed stress fracture.  There is likely soft tissue damage.  You could benefit from immobilization and possibly physical therapy.
