Swelling and limp after tib fib break

Question
My son slipped on ice and has a spiral fracture of his tib (just above the ankle)  fib (much higher near knee) back in late February. He had surgery with rod and screws. Early this month he had a screw removed ( closer to the knee) and was told to walk on the leg. Since the first surgery his ankle has been swelling. Will the swelling ever go away? He walks with a heavy limp. Will that ever go away? His doctor said that his rod and screws will most likely stay in. Wouldn't having the rod and screw in contribute to his pain and swelling? Why leave it in forever? He is active in physical therapy. He is 21 and in school for culinary. What are the long term effects of this injury? Will he ever be 100% again? Please help. His doctor is vague and brief with answers.

Answer
Dear Monique,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Ukranian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...

It is normal to have swelling and pain after these kinds of injuries. Although the doctor is vague-he/she is much more knowledgeable about the injury-since it was repaired by them. Next time ask the doctor not to be so vague & insists on an answer
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
