Question
my son broke his ankle in 3 places and i was wondering in the time of healing until the time of his operation is there any signs that i should look for as for any pinching of any kind or occasional numbness or anything else that he may be required to be seen even faster than his operation

Answer
Rosemary,

There will likely be pain and swelling of the foot and ankle.  Bruising is also common.

One thing to observe would be if the whole foot becomes numb or the toes suddenly become pale or purple.  This could indicate a sudden problem with circulation to the foot, sometimes referred to as compartment syndrome.  This would need immediate attention.

Your son should stay off of the foot and elevate, ice etc.

Good luck and Happy Holidays
