Question
Yes, Doctor, I spoke with Robert in Lakeland this afternoon. Amazingly I asked all the questions my wife wanted the answers to, and she seems very satisfied. She did have one question on how long she needed to stay off her feet after the procedure, even though she is aware that she should be able to walk out of the office after the surgery. She cares for 11 dogs and 5 cats, all strays, and is concerned I wouldn't be able to do what she does like she wants it done.. Also, she was concerned whether she would need to use crutches. As she is just under three weeks recovering from a broken arm which is still in a cast, the need for crutches would make getting around difficult if she also has the cast on her arm. She has an appointment tomorrow (Thursday) to check on the status of her arm, and wants to wait to schedule the initial appointment with you until after she has a better feel for when her cast can come off.

Robert gave you an excellent reference; he seems very forthcoming, and has done the same research on the options as my wife and I have, and come to the same conclusion - Cryosurgery is the only answer. My wife is aware that the worst part of the surgery is the anesthetic on the foot; Robert had mentioned that as well.

Anyhow, I'm sure we will be calling your office very soon to schedule the initial appointment.

Thanks so much for your time and honesty.

-----Question-----
Dr. Katz, any progress on someone my wife could speak with? If there's a concern about releasing the information about a patient, I can provide information on how to contact my wife or myself via phone or email without your patient giving out their personal information.

-----Question-----
Josh called me today and indicated that there was approximatly an 80% success rate on the subject. Can you provide any references to whom my wife can communicate to get a better understanding of the 'after effects'?
-----Answer-----
Bill,

Sorry for the back and forth. I will work on getting you a name tomorrow if possible.

Hi Bill,

As you may know already, there are few options for Fibromas.  Open surgery is rarely successful and topical medications are 50/50.

We can check with some patients and see if they would be willing to talk about the procedure.  I can't be sure if we can get someone.  Also, please keep in mind that each person gets diffrent results.

We will do our best.

Sincerely,

Marc Katz

Answer
Bill,

Your wife would be best off healing the arm fracture first.  After the surgery, I recommend taking it easy the first 3 days.  That means avoiding exercise, long walks, ladders etc.

In some cases I will consider a soft cast or a slipper cast after the cryosurgery.  We can discuss that at your visit.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and your wife.

Sincerely,

Marc Katz
