Question
I recently broke a metatarsal bone in my right foot.  I was given a stiff flat shoe to wear. The break was the result of a fall.  My son also broken a metatarsal bone in his right foot, however his was a stress fracture from running.  He was put in a boot.  Why the difference?

Answer
Hi Patricia,

Fractures of the foot may be treated differently by each doctor.  Some use surgical shoes and others boots.  It is personal preference and also the type of fracture and location.  So there are many variables.
