Question
The second toe (next to the big toe) on my foot has been hurting since I stretched the wrong way getting up from an awkward position almost 1 1/2 years ago.   I have been told by a podiatrist to buy custom insoles, tape the toe daily, and use anti-inflammatory, yet I am in terrible pain and am limiting my walking.  No more heels, and only sneakers.  The toe actually pulls towards the big toe since the day I injured it.  I need more of a solution, but local podiatrist has said surgery generally doesn't work, and basically to just deal with it.  I am in my mid forties, and my lifestyle is compromised.  Suggestions?

Answer
Hi Joan,

Capsulitis of the foot is sort of a catch phrase for several conditions.  It sounds like you may have some type of bone deformity as well.  Hopefully you have had x-rays, if not that is essential.  There are often simple in-office surgical procedures to release tendons and other soft tissue to better align the foot.

I would seek several opinions from other Podiatrists in your area to see if you can get relief.

At your age, live with it is not a good option, you have alot of activity ahead of you.

Sincerely,
