My ankle hurts when I lace up my skates
9/21 15:07:03

Question
I have no pain in my ankle walking or anything else I do. also no swelling.  But - for over a month when I lace up my skates ( apply pressure to the front of my ankle ), the pressure on the front ligament - tendon is extreme and I am forced to leave the top three eye-lets untied - loose to reduced the sharp pain. I have been icing the front of my ankle and using an anti-flam cream but it appears to make no difference. Is this something I have to live with and hopefully over the summer it will repair ? itself ?.

Cheers - Mike.

Answer
Hi Mike,

The pain in your foot and ankle is common when wearing skates.  You tpically will have pressure against the foot and ankle tendons.  I would check to make sure you have a good fit and wear thick socks as well.  These peoblems usually resolve once the pressure is no longer present.

Good Luck.
