Jammed toe

Question
I jammed my big toe 10 days ago by kicking a door & it was the most exrutiating pain I've ever experienced. I put ice on it instantly the went to the ER about an hour later. I saw a nurse practicioner & he x-rayed my foot & said it was not broken, probably just jammed. It's now bruised, still hurts, I still can't walk normally, & I can barely bend it. Then Sunday I fell down the steps & hit it, & today I tripped & hit it again. So, needless to say, hurting even more now. Other than me hurting it 2 more times, should it still be hurting over a week later? Also, my chiropractor pulled it last Tuesday. Which hurt like you know what.
Thanks for any help-Heather

Answer
Hi Heather,

I would avoid having anyone pull your toe after an injury.  This will further damage the soft tissue and if there happens to be a fracture that was hidden it could be damaged further.

It may take weeks to resolve.  However, the proper treatment would be to immobilize your foot and take the pressure from the toe.  Also ice is helpful.  You may also need follow-up x-rays to check again for a fracture.  I would see a podiatrist for any foot problems such as this.

So if you are still in pain, please see a podiatrist.
