Question
Hi, I had mortons neuroma surgery 9 weeks ago. It was removed through the top of my foot, between my second and third toe. My podiatrist said everything is fine and to come back in a month, well here's my question. I can not bend or flex any of my toes on this foot, I can not put wieght on this foot with out it hurting terribly, also it turns really red and still swells but now it is turning red and burning, with the pins and needles feeling all the way up to my knee. Is this really normal or should I seek a second opinion? The pain is worse now than before surgery.
thank you for any information.

Answer
This Chicago & Elmhurst Podiatrist says.......

Dear Kelly,

Sometimes there is increased pain in the surgical area-especially when we put weight on the foot. We do aggressive physical therapy following the neuroma surgery-which greatly decreases recovery time and pain.
Continue to try to move the toes with and without the aid of your hands.
Discuss your expectations with your current doctor and see if they can recommend something and give you a reasonable explanation. Perhaps you have some metatarsalgia(pain in ball of foot)
Check our website AnkleNFoot.com and do a search for neuroma & metatarsalgia.
That said -if your Doctor does not have a good answer and offer a solution-then seek a second opinion-from a Board Certified Podiatrist
Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
