Lingering foot problem of 5 - 6 months

Question
I was just wondering if you could send me a copy of that report?..

I recently saw a surgeon who offered all the procedures he could do to help my foot ... That included moving the bunion in.. and doing something to the forefoot (cause i was having alot of pressure on the forefoot). I forget all the names of the procedures/ the technical names anyway.

But i am concerned because the other issues i was having,  that being the possible nerve or circulation problem, and i feel it could get worse if i was to tackle the skeletal problems without properly diagnosing the other underlying problem or without further investigation.

I saw a Prof who was a neurologist .. And he suggested that it was all in my head. However i am not convinced, it has become difficult to walk on my feet during the day.

I did some research on the internet and thought it may be a circulation problem in my foot.. i checked out the symptoms..

Throbbing Feet
Tingling
Cold Feet , sometimes way freezing than my good foot
Discoloration
After hot showers it feels good but then soon resumes to its symptoms and the foot goes very red.. almost to red compared to the other one
Foot isnt as red as the other one during the day
Get little cramps in foot

Not suggesting that i do have circulation problems but all these symptoms were listed on various information i found on the internet.. And it may be a good theory..

Pain usually diminishes with rest  while im sleeping but then resumes in the morning with activity

Im just concerned i just want to get diagnosed properly , if it isnt nerve issues im not sure what it is.. I'm sure i can fix the problem i just need further investigation.

I believe MRI's and other tests can show circulation disorders?.. A surgen of good reputation has offered me surgery in August, however i definatley do not want to go ahead until i know what is going wrong with the circulation side of problems because surgery could make it worse.

I had nerve condution studies and there was a slight worsening in the problem foot..

Any information would be really helpful this problem has been troubling me for up to 6 months now and it starting to take over my life.. its so hard to walk on my feet and leave my shoe on because my foot burns and tinglines inside the shoe!! it feels nicer but not symtom free when my shoes are removed...

Thanks in advance really appreciate it sir :)

Answer
Almost impossible to say without seeing, but your description sounds like a condition called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) which is a syndrome of nerves.  I suggest you visit with a neurologist for a second opinion prior to pursuing surgery, since, if it is RSD, surgery can aggravate the condition.

All the best,
Dr. Andrew Schneider
