Cuboid Stress Fracture

Question
I have been having foot pain along the outside of my right foot.  i woke up one day and it was just there.  Anyway i ignored it and in May 09 i was in a fender bender and had to slam that foot on the brake.  Initially after the accident i flexed my foot (by raising and scrunching my toes) and there was a squeaky sound, as well as more pain,  a month later i went to the first podiatrist who took an Xray and taped my foot as well as telling me to wear enclosed shoes.  i did this and the pain was getting worse so that it hurts to even bend my toes or walk and throbs when not in use.  the Xray came back as normal.  i then went to another podiatrist who did the same thing and the Xray came back normal.  so in November 09 i went to my doctor who took a bone scan which came back as showing evidence of a stress fracture of the cuboid bone.  my doctor told me to rest it.  i have rested my foot and 3 months later it is not much better i can bend my toes without pain but walking is still painful.  what can you recommend?

Answer
Hi Bec,

I would consider a walking removable cast and physical therapy.  An MRI would be the best diagnostic imaging at this point to understand the condition better.  If you ave a non-healing fracture, a bone stimulator is often helpful.  I believe that you need to see a more aggressive doctor that will work to identify the problem and get you healed. Fractures of the cuboid need help healing, not just rest.
