Question
I am experiencing a phantom like pain in my big toe. It only hurts when it is
touched. The part that hurts is right above the cuticle, at the base of the nail
area. Its not swollen. Its been hurting for a couple of weeks. The big toe nail has
not been growing at the same rate as the others or at all. And there appears to
be no cuticle. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
Hi Victoria,

I would see a podiatrist and have an x-ray to make sure that there is not a bone growth beneath the toenail.  It sounds like there has been some injury to the growth plate of the nail.  There could also be some infection even without a large amount of swelling.
