Tight Achilles with Plantar Fasciitis

I have had tight heel chords and calf muscles for years. The past 6 years, I have dealt with plantar fascious and adult aquired flat foot. About 7 months ago, I had achillese tendonitis. I went for pt for about two months and have been stretching daily since being discharged from pt. Out of the clear blue, I again developed achillese tendonitis with pain extending to the bottom of my foot (heal pad area). I can't get past neutral. I am now using splints for 1 1/2 hours a night while watching tv to further stretch. Could tight heal chords, calf muscles become more problematic as one ages? My l-5 had completely ruptured 20 years ago, leaving me with a powdering substance where the disc used to be. Could this contribute to the problem I am having with tight tendons/tendonitis?

Dear Roxy,
For your tight Achilles' tendons-Try different orthotics in shoes with a wedge-low heel. Wear mules around the house with a little bit of a heel. Have a Board Certified Podiatrist evaluate your problem and give you specific calf stretching exercise and appropriate orthotics & shoe recommendation. If you are overweight-that is major a contributor to plantar fasciitis. Continue with the night splint-but also incorporate exercises and lifestyle changes that should improve your plantar fasciitis. An accurate diagnosis will lead to excellent treatment. The L-1 rupture should not influence the calves.
