Question
Hi I twisted my foot today and got a cut under my small toe.  It did not bleed for very long but is quite deep. It is now looking bruised and is slightly swollen. I am worried that it will not heal as it seems to open every time I walk. Will it heal in time or should I consider a trip to emergency. I am not in a lot of pain but it does throb

Answer
Hi Fiona,

I wouldn't think that you would need to go to the Emergency Room, however if the area worsens I would see a Podiatrist.

Cleanse the wound daily, apply antibiotic cream and a light bandage.  In some cases it helps to splint the 4th and 5th toes for a while.

If there is increased pain, redness or swelling you may have an infection and should see a Dr.  If unsure at all, see a Dr.

Good Luck,

Sincerely,
