Foot injury with loss of big toe

Question
On 12-4-10, I accidently shot my right foot just under the big toe.  It severed the bone to the big toe and the surgeon recommended removing the big toe to help close the wound and for a faster healing of the wound.
The wound is healing nicely and after the stitches are removed, I am hopeful of wearing a boot that will let me walk on my heal and the middle of my foot to keep from putting any weight on the wound.
The surgeon says that I should not put weight on the wound for several more weeks.

Is that a boot that you can recommend that would allow me to walk on my heel while protecting the wound area?

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Doyle

I would look for a boot that may have a little bit of a rocker bottom-to allow easier walking.
Make sure the other side has an equal heel height.
Change your walking style-s do not push with the foot in the missing big toe-but rather with 3/4 of your foot-as opposed to just your heel. Take a regular step with the good foot and a half step with the injured foot. Check out our website store at AnkleNFoot.com for examples of walking boots.
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
