Painful Toe

Question
My toe (next to my big toe) is red, swollen, and very tender to the touch. I have not banged on anything, there is nothing in it. There is no ingrown toe nail. It's just very uncomfortable and painful. At night time the sheet even hurts my toe when I move my foot. My joints don't hurt. I haven't changed my diet. I have very comfortable shoes that I wear all the time. It is just the one toe. It has been like this for a couple of months now. I have had x-rays done and everything shows up normal. I have soaked my feet, wrapped my toe, used creams and even tried icing it and nothing helps. The only shoes that I can wear are flip flops. Please help.......

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Alexis,
For your toe pain. Email me a copy of the x-rays-for a better idea.
Since the only thing that gives you relief is a flip-flop tells me that you may have an irritation of the base of the second toe (metatarsalgia)-much like the knuckle of the hand. See our website AnkleNFoot.com for more information about metatarsalgia. If the pain becomes worse with higher heel shoes-that may be the culprit.
Continue to wear the flip flops and experiment with similar comfortable shoes for a few weeks to let it quiet down. Try Motrin or similar & total rest for 2 days(weekend)-walking obviously irritates it.
Also, if you have very low back pain-it might be affecting the nerve to that area-but does not explain comfort with flip-flops.
Are there podiatrists in Poland?-if not see an orthopedic surgeon who does feet.
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
