Question
My son had a 30' fall last year.  Among other things he separated the 4 smaller toes from his left foot. They were unsuccessfully reattached with surgical pinning.  Now we don't know what to do next as the only course of action
recommended is to fuse the toes together which will give him very limited mobility. Do you  have any other suggestions or any new procedures to connect these toes to the foot? The 4 toes now have a large space between them and the big toe and are beginning to curl under. He is losing toenails from rubbing against his shoes.  Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Janet,
For your son's toes. You nee to see a Board Certified Podiatrist who specializes in these kind of surgeries. The age, activity level and amount of remaining injury will determine the best procedure. Sometimes implants can be put in-knowing that later they may come out---or fail. This is best determined with a thorough exam and other tests(X-ray,MRI,etc).
I would seek one-two more opinions.
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
