Question
Regarding plantar neuroma incisions to remove a stump neuroma:
Some places cast a person's foot (& put a metal bar on it)  and allow them to walk on it right away after surgery.  Others do not cast it, but allow some walking on the front of foot in a shoeboot.  Other say stay completely off it for 3 weeks.  In general, what approach do you think is best and why?  Thanks

ANSWER: This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Dan,

The best answer for your neuroma surgery is to come to us!-Just bragging----
O.K.-Serious time now---
If the incision is not optimal-then additional precautionary measures are taken to prevent scars-as mentioned above.
Some doctors are fearful of plantar scars-but there are ways to avoid scars.
If the plantar incision for the neuroma surgery is placed correctly, is small and follows plastic surgery guidelines -then you can walk on the foot carefully in a surgical shoe.
If the Doctor is experienced-then the doctor is aware how to address incisions on the bottom of the foot-and the patient uses common sense to avoid weight on the incision site(wear the surgical shoe-walk carefully and to a minimum during healing, etc),then a favorable outcome is more apt to happen!

Hope This Helps
Good Luck !!!
