Stem Cell Research

Question
I read an answer you gave to a man that was doing a research paper on stem cell research. He asked if you were a candidate and you said even if you were you wouldnt do it because of the embryo. I respect your decision, because no child deserves to die especially for scientific purposes. However, I was wondering why this would make your decision considering that there are 2 other places to get stem cells. 1 being from umbilical cord blood. The other from bone marrow. Does this change your decision?

Answer
Hi Adrienne,
Thanks so much for your question.

My only objection with stem cell research is in the area of embryonic stem cells mainly from aborted babies. I have no problem with stem cell research. Science and research has shown that stem cells can be harvested from adults, baby teeth, etc., as well as the 2 you mentioned.

When the medical community, stem cell research advocates and politions push more and more for the use of embryonic stem cells, in my opinion, it will cause the opening of a pandora's box which reduces human life to a commodity.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me anytime.

Thanks again,
John McKinzie
