Question
i am a 37yr old male c3 quadriplegic. i have a very large stage 4 sacral decubitus ulcer that has been debreeded 3x in the past 3yrs. i also use a wound vac. several months after the 1st debreedment i contracted MRSA. after the wound was debreeded i was given antibiotics and resumed the wound vac therapy for another year or so. the wound seemed to be healing just fine up until about 6 months ago. it stopped healing. according to the P.A. the tissue was chronic? we waited a couple of months to see if the wound begin to heal again. there was never any drainage or signs of infection. unfortunately, my doctor decided i needed more surgery. he removed all of the new tissue, leaving a hole almost as big as the one before. i'm looking for another doctor and another wound care treatment center. i believe that many problems could have been prevented if my physician had been more involved in the case. can you give me some advice as to how i can find a GOOD wound care center in my area, and a good physician as well. also, other than wound vacs, what other ways are used to treat chronic pressure wounds?

God bless

Answer
Hi Michael, first off I wish you the best. You are dealing with my worst nightmare. I have been extremely lucky over my 36 plus years as a C4-C5 quad, only superficial sores. I don't know where your from, but from what I've heard CRAIG HOSPITAL in Englewood Colorado is good. I go to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee Wisconsin and see DR. Waring, he is quite knowledgeable. I know there is good progress being made with stem cell research, but I don't know how far they are. I could make a call on Monday and see if my doctor has any suggestions. If your interested write back tomorrow. I hope this helps and I will make some calls Monday. Sincerely, Ken
