Question
Good Day! I have a fusion of C2/3,3/4,5/6 with herniations above and below. I KNOW that this herniation was caused by a terrible stridor cough which racked my entire body and spanned a period of 18 months,( treated with high dosage steroids.)I am still walking (with a stick and more than occasionally falling!)but know what the future holds.

None of the doctors will accept that the cough caused the disc herniation. Is there any proof please?

Answer
Hi Shelia,
Thanks so much for your question.

I'm sorry but I have no proof that coughing caused your neck injury. However, to me, it sounds like a type of whiplash. If you had strained the muscles during the beginning of your coughing episode, it seems to reason that over a period of time your neck would suffer some damage.

I've had people write me that suffered neck and back injuries doing simple tasks around the house. One person bent over to pick up something and sneezed thus causing a lower back injury.

Some doctors are so head-strong that if it doesn't sound logical to them or if they didn't read about, then it's not possible.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me again anytime.

Thanks again,
John McKinzie
