Question
Hello,   My 3 yr old son has almost no arches on his feet.

Our pediatrician told me to do nothing but I am still concerned.  Until he has about 2.5 yrs old he wore shoes with a soft leather sole, like the popular Robeez.

I am wondering what type of shoes might be best for him to wear ?    MANY THANKS for your opinion.   Doris

Answer
Doris,

Typically in a 3 year old there may be some flat appearance to the foot. If your sons foot turns inwards or outwards significantly this may be a bigger concern.

I like supportive running shoes for kids.  I feel that walking barefoot around the house is OK.  It helps develop balance and stability.

If you are concerned I would certainly make an appointment with a Podiatrist that deals with childrens foot problems.  It would be helpful to get an x-ray to make sure all looks well. Even if all is OK, at least you feel assured after another opinion.

Sincerely,
