Question
Hi Dr. Katz, I greatly appreciate the services that you offer.  A week ago, I hurt my heel jumping over a chair.  Pretty much all my weight landed on it.  Since then, I haven't been able to put any weight on it.  Both sides of my heel are pretty bruised and the bottom of it is bruised as well.  The thing that worries me is that neither the bruising nor the pain has improved much.  Is this something that I should see a doctor for?  There's no way I could've broken something, right?  Thank you so much!

Answer
Hi Martin,

You certainly could have broken your heel bone or other foot bone and need to see a Podiatrist for an x-ray ASAP.
Your inability to bear weight on the foot and your foot pain are worrisome.

Other possibilities include a tear of the band on the bottom of the foot known as the plantar fascia.

You may require an MRI or CT scan.  You will also likely need some immobilization and physical therapy.

In any event I would seek treatment for either problem.

Please take care of this soon and Good luck.

Sincerely,

Marc Katz, DPM
