pain on the inside of the right foot and swollen

Question
I have a swollen spot on the inside of my right ankle. It hurts really bad when I stand or walk on my foot. The ankle itself is swollen also. It has been this way for some time. If I stay off it they got down but as soon as I put them down and walk it comes back. What could this be? I have not twisted, turned or sprang my ankle.

Answer
Hi Pam,

There are several possibilities.  Possibilities include inflamed ankle or foot tendon, a stress fracture or possibly even gout of the ankle joint.  These can all occur without injury.

I would decrease activities, ice the area and use an Ace bandage.

However, you need to see a Podiatrist ASAP and get a proper diagnosis.  This can only be made by having an exam and some x-rays.  You may also require an MRI or other tests such as blood work.

So please see a Podiatrist and get this resolved.
