Question
Hello Dr. Katz, I had asked the past question "What is normal pain" I now have a another problem. Last Monday the 19th. I went back to my podiatrist and he put a cast on my left foot. Now for the past week I have been having nothing but problems with this cast. I feel something is poking me right on the top of my foot. The cast is not padded at all and my bones rub against it and the top layer was fiberglass and the inner layer is plaster, Well the top layer has started to come undone. I have manage to stop it on the top but the bottom is coming undone.
I called my primary ph and they told me that they could not do anything about it that I had to go back to the Dr who put it on. I really don't want to go back to him. The morning that I went to him he seemed rushed and not really sure of what he was doing he didn't have enough material and just didn't seem he was to confident or competent.
I want to go to another Dr to evaluate the cast. To see if it is properly casted but I don't know what to do since my primary wont look at it.
Do you know of any Dr in Tampa or the surrounding area that will just evaluate my cast. It may not be anything that can be done but I have been in a cast before and it was nothing like this. The poking is driving me out of my skin it hurts so bad. well thank you for anything you can suggest
Also i have united health care if that makes and difference

Answer
Hi Amanda,

You should not have this type of pain.  The cast may be rubbing and could be causing a wound.  The cast should be removed ASAP to evaluate the problem.

I am in Tampa.  Why don't you come in for an evaluation.
