Foot pain

Question
I work at an air port and I am required to wear their safety shoes.  I've tried 2 different sizes and endless insoles to try to make them comfortable but all to no avail.  I take passengers in wheelchairs to and from the planes including heavy bags and on a busy day can walk 10 miles continuously pushing heavy loads.  The pain in my feet is at my big toe joint progressing along the toes, and the pain is so severe I cannot flex my feet at the toe joints so end up walking on the outsides of my feet to try to alleviate the pain.  I have since developed back and neck problems, namely cervical sponylosis but I have yet to discuss my lower back x ray results with my GP.  Could the shoes i am required to wear be contributing to all of these problems and how could a address the problem?

Answer
Hi June,

The shoes may worsen your foot pain but are likely not the cause.  I would have x-rays to see if you have arthritis.  Insoles should be custom-made by a podiatrist.  Lower back problems can also cause foot pain.  If you are overweight, losing weight can make a huge difference.
