Question
Hiya my names Codie and ive been to A&E to night for my swollen and very sore big top. They had a very quick look at it and sent me of with some antibiotics however im not satisfied as im in terrible pain is there anything I could do or am I been over the top?

Answer
Hi Codie,

You need to find the cause of the infection if you truly have an infection.  A toe infection is usually the result of an ingrown nail or a wound on the toe.  Sometimes this can occur from an injury as well.

Other causes of toe redness and swelling include a fracture or gout, a condition from an increase of uric acid in the blood.

I would see a Podiatrist for an x-ray and exam.  This will the best way to have a diagnosis and the best treatment.
