Pain in my upper right foot-region

Question
Dear Doctor,
I've had this pain in my right upper foot region for a few months now, and it seems to be spreading lower into the pad of my foot. My family physician suggested wearing flats and perscribed me an anti-inflammatory. The pain has yet to cease. My job requires me to be on my feet the greater part of the day. Even when I am laying down for the day I can still feel the sharp pains. Please advise...

Answer
Hi Cris,

It sounds like you are straining the soft tissues of your foot.  There is also a chance that you could have a stress fracture or other condition.  Typically foot pain is relieved by supportive shoes, not flats.

Also, sharp pains may indicate some type of condition involving a foot nerve.

In any event, you need to see a Podiatrist for evaluation and treatment.  You may need x-rays of your foot.

So please contact a Podiatrist.  Good Luck.
