Question
I broke my heel about a month ago and still cant bend my toes down. I had a large bruise in the middle of the arch. It is still visibly swollen. I haven't seen any improvement. They gave me lots of Vicodin and a Bledsoe brace. I know the heel will take time, but don't know why the fore foot area would still be impaired.

Answer
Hi JC,

A heel fracture is a serious injury.  Whenever you have this type of injury you will also severely sprain and damage other tissues in the foot.  Many people have pain for months or years following this injury and at times there can be permanent injury.

It is essential that you begin physical therapy for appropriate rehabilitation of your foot and heel.  This will help with healing and muscle movement.  I would discuss this with your Dr. or seek another opinion.

Sincerely,
